The Saviola Ecological Panel® supports the Italian Pavilion on project by @stefanoboerinteriors at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Italy is the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt International Book Fair. The last time was in 1988: a participation that marked the height of a golden age for Italian literature.
That first time proved to be a success of critics and numbers: the Italian pavilion caught the attention with the long-awaited presentation of Umberto Eco’s second novel, Il pendolo di Foucault. The great Italian author had just made a breakthrough with Il nome della Rosa, a book that sold almost 3 million copies in Germany.
This year, after 36 years, with the motto “Roots in the future”, Italy 🇮🇹 is the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Which city is ready to shine with names and influential figures of the contemporary publishing scene.
The participation of the Country Guest of Honour, represented each year by the highest national authorities, is the focus of the entire event and it has not happened since 1988. When it was officially inaugurated the current format that, within the program, Assigns a special place to a country or language region.
Almost 120 authors and professionals from the sector will animate debates, musical performances and art exhibitions in Germany”, said Mauro Mazza, Special Commissioner of the Government presenting his vision for this important international showcase.
In 2024, the main theme of the Italian presence at the Frankfurt Book Fair will be the square, symbol of urbanism but also of Italian society. “Place and space among the most distinctive in Italy,” comments the architect Stefano Boeri who was entrusted with the project of the Italian pavilion, “we are thinking about the square of the Italian historic centers for the development of the Italian pavilion”.
The square is a place”, continues Boeri “of relationships and meeting, generous for the activities that take place there and also unpredictable for what happens to you”. Ideal to take visitors to discover the new editorial Italian literature and knowledge in many areas. The square is a space in which past – roots – and future will cohabit to surprise the visitor and entice him to discover and experience Italy of yesterday and tomorrow.
For this purpose, the pavilion is structured around a real central square, dominated by a series of architectural elements, such as the porticoes that determine its perimeter, the columns that mark the rhythm of the portico, and the steps that delimit the area becoming also a kind of informal sitting on which to distribute freely and spontaneously, as happens in the historic centers.
For the installation 72 m3 of reclaimed wood were used, corresponding to a number of trees saved from felling. We are proud that our Ecological panel has been chosen as an aesthetic element and with a remarkable ecological soul. Discover the participating authors and events related to the fair.
